In 2020, 95% of the top 250 films at the box office featured scores composed by men. Statistics on film music, race, ethnicity and ableism have not been published. The Reel Change Fund for Diversity in Film Scoring tackles these inequities by offering funding to composers who have been under-represented and to film directors committed to transforming an industry in need of change. This session gives tips and inspiration to anyone involved in the process of scoring or commissioning music for film whether film director or musician. Our panelists will give clear advice on how to access new funding for film scores. They will also talk about their journey so far as emerging and established composers and their take on what will increase the quality and success of film soundtracks of the future.
