In many areas of the United States, a lack of accessible and equitable transportation can have dire consequences, particularly for people with disabilities, low-income individuals, and minority communities. Transportation “deserts” or inadequate accommodations can prevent these communities from accessing essential services, such as jobs, medical appointments, and social activities. How did we get here? And more importantly, how do we address inequities in transportation? The U.S. Department of Transportation will host a panel of transportation equity experts to discuss this critical issue. They will examine strategies that can advance equity and offer cases studies and advice from key thought leaders in this emerging space.
