Previously, most Artists relied on labels to fund, distribute, market and promote their music. These gatekeepers inadvertently determined how many artists could succeed and at what scale. Technology disrupted music distribution (streaming vs. physical media) and now is quickly disrupting and adapting portions of the value chain faster than labels can adapt, and providing scaled opportunities for far more artists. Today, the most valuable thing an Artist needs is a digital CTO (Chief Technical Officer) to guide them through this landscape, make the best technical bets for where each artist is in their lifecycle, manage and maximize the multiple revenue streams now available to them.
