They don't want to talk about it... but many music publishers aren't happy with the "streaming revenue split" with record labels. It’s about a five-to-one split in favor of labels. Since major publishers are often affiliated with labels under the same corporate umbrella, they don’t want to rock the boat. But many indie publishers and songwriters (!) don’t only want to see change, they want a sea change. The debate raises a question: what makes a hit, the song or the singer?
