A conversation with Michael Abels, composer of the acclaimed scores for Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” and “Us.” Abels will discuss his collaborations with Peele, how they developed the unique “gospel horror” sound, and how he found inspiration in everything from “The Nutcracker” to “I Got 5 On It.” Abels, one of the most accomplished African-American composers working in film, will explain his creative process with Peele as well as his music for the Spike Lee-produced “See You Yesterday.” He will discuss how he wrote the creepy opening “Anthem” for “Us” and how he used an eclectic mix of instruments that includes the kalimba, berimbau and didgeridoo. He will be interviewed by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bill Adair.
