Lesly Reynaga at The Venue ATX
Lesly Reynaga is on the path of a “one-of-a-kind” career, as Stax Records/Motown legend Al Bell claims, with the potential to be a “rare superstar.” Having spent the pandemic quarantine composing and recording, Reynaga is ready to debut her first full-length album of 12 self-composed tracks in 2022. Her new material features a cross-cultural, Latin beat-driven sound that’s immersed in her mariachi roots. With producers Nick Clark (Kanye West, JoJo), Andrew Schindler, Nate Villegas, and mixing engineer Billy Hickey (Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez), Reynaga delivers on the promise that led the Austin Chronicle to call her “one of Austin’s most formidable pop songwriters.”
The new work from the Monterrey, Mexico native, now based in Austin and Los Angeles, is self-contained. It reflects the independent nature of a woman and an immigrant whose voice echoes the timeless cries of the Mexican grito in a search for joy in times of struggle. With “catchy dance beats that carry powerful lyricism,” as the Austin American-Statesman described her 2019 EP “Dual Passport,” Reynaga borrows from mariachi traditions and blends them with modern rhythmic beats in a dark, volcanic burst of passion.
