Kansado
Based in uptown New York City, Dominican American producer Kansado is rooted in the hub of a flourishing new wave afro-latinx music scene defining what it means to be “de aquí y de allá” – from both here and there. Kansado fuses the rhythms of the Caribbean and Latin soul with the left field sensibilities of hip hop, neo soul, and lofi to create a musical language all his own. Kansado’s mantra: “Clave on the bottom, everything else on top.”
His musical influences span the experimental styles of Flying Lotus and Thundercat to the folkloric sounds of Dominican artists Vicente Garcia, Johnny Ventura, and Juan Luis Guerra. In 2018 Kansado released his first foray into afro-latin fusion, Futuro Tumbao. That same year he composed the score to the documentary "Más Fuerte”, an introspective film on Dominican sound system culture in New York City and the Dominican Republic. The film was supported by Boiler Room and presented by Presidente. Kansado has appeared on Soulection Radio, BBC Radio 1xtra/6, Bandcamp weekly, and the album, “El Día Más Largo”, a compilation featuring artists across Latin America exploring the new genre of Latin lofi. Futuro Tumbao II is set to release March 2022.
