Mahealane
Mahealane is a Hawaiian name meaning “light of the full silver moon”. She is a singer-songwriter and trumpeter based in Los Angeles (AKA Ruth/Ruthtrumpets). Mahealane was born in Hawaii and raised in Michigan in a musical family. She spent many years freelancing as a trumpet player and jazz singer, but began her journey working on her own music since living in Los Angeles. Her debut EP, Magical Complicated, was released during early part of the pandemic and since restrictions have lifted Mahealane turned her solo work into a quartet playing their first show at the storied Federal Bar in North Hollywood. Inspirations for Mahealane's vocal and instrumental music both combine her Jazz/pop sensibilities with a love for the strange and beautiful sonic maps. Heavily inspired by Hiatus Kaiyote as well as great composers from Rimsky-Korsakov to Miles Davis. Her latest EP, Space Jams is a duo collab with producer/pianist PRNDL. Luscious horn melodies paired with the chill hop and Jazztronica styles permeate the EP and show off the instrumental and production side of Mahealane and her partner PRNDL.
