Born in the southeast corner of China and currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sophia Shen is a composer, sound artist and pipa improviser who creates music and sound by using instruments, field recordings, found objects, analog synthesizers and algorithmically-generated electronics. Through subtle texture and intricate timbre, her works often construct layers of interwoven sonic spaces that merge the real and the imaginary soundscapes through means of perception.
