The Last Cruise
By February 20th, 2020, the Diamond Princess cruise ship accounted for more than half of all COVID-19 cases outside China.
Passengers were quarantined to their staterooms, but the ship's crew continued to work - delivering meals and becoming de-facto nurses. They'd become what we'd later term "essential workers."
As the ship’s quarantine failed, the number of cases grew: 10, 61, 135, 218, 355, 542, 712.
The news quickly moved on from the Diamond Princess. But, looking back, what transpired aboard the ship was a warning.
Through never-before-seen footage, we see the mass confusion and the deepening of class divisions on board as ominous harbingers of what was to come.
