The Oxy Kingpins
While there has been plenty of coverage surrounding the role of opioid manufacturer, Purdue Pharmaceuticals and the Sackler family that owns it, little is known about the middle layer of that distribution pyramid: the drug distributors that actually shipped pills to pharmacies, hospitals, and pain management clinics all over America. The film examines the informal but deeply symbiotic relationship between major corporations and street drug dealers. We meet a criminal gang that diverted pills from the “opioid glut'' in Florida up to Boston. Oxy Kingpins is a film that captures the corruption in American business and the lengths that corporations are willing to go to for their bottom line.
