Perhaps no musical subculture has been more dependent upon the live setting than DJs and their fans. The pandemic shut down in person events, posing an existential threat to the dance music experience. DJs, however, quickly pivoted online, finding a way to make their live sets compelling on a small screen, molding existing platforms like Twitch to suit their needs and creating an online performance revolution that will no doubt remain after festivals reopen. This panel will examine that transformation, the technology and content companies behind it, and emerging technologies that aim to create a supportive financial ecosystem to ensure DJs get paid for all of their hard work.
