Is Everyone Sick of the News?

2020 has been an onslaught of news events - from a global pandemic to the U.S. presidential election, and everything in between, the amount of content being produced and information demanding our attention has been exhausting to consume. How do we as news organizations ensure we’re serving an audience that’s overstimulated by push notifications, social media posts, fake news and zoom meetings? How has consumption changed both as a result of coronavirus and the evolving role of social media platforms in proliferating information? What does the role of fake news or disinformation play in this fatigue and what can news organizations do about it? How can we make sure we’re still informing the public in a world where there’s just too much happening? What have we learned from 2020?
