Derrick Beckles
Chances are you have encountered or have experienced something influenced by the off-the-wall humor of Derrick “Pinky” Beckles. The Canadian-born writer, director and comedian who has pioneered some of today’s most celebrated genres of comedy. What began as an obscure hobby of collecting and curating found footage, turned into the cult phenomenon of TV Carnage, which has openly inspired many of the shows and comedians on television today. Despite his knack for maintaining a low profile, Beckles changed the direction of indie pop culture through his twisted vision, and spawned an entire era of unapologetic weirdness. An endless list and cross section of minds, fans of Beckles’ work include Eric Andre, Tim and Eric, Brett Gelman, Jon Daily, Mike Lazzo (Head of Adult Swim), Beth Ditto, Danny Brown, Johnny Knoxville, Michael Cera, HEALTH, Hannibal Buress, and Courtney Love, among others.
