Bert was born in South Africa and traveled to the UK to pursue fashion and photography. She moved into film and worked extensively in commercials as a producer before becoming an indie filmmaker. In 2006 she won a short film BAFTA for “Antonio’s Breakfast”. Bert joined forces with Bertie to create Bert&Bertie, a female writing-directing duo with their own unique style of storytelling in 2005. Named Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch, and recognized by the DGA as one of the few female directing teams, their narrative work is award winning in both dramatic and comedic genres having earned them awards at many festivals and having been short-listed for the Oscars. Their commercial work for Sony, Microsoft, the U.N. & BBC spans every medium from live-action to animation. This wealth of creative experience allows the duo to put stories first. They directed "Troop Zero" which premiered closing night of Sundance 2019, and recently were selected as Fellows of the Fox Studios Directors Initiative.
