When Janis Searles Jones drove into Juneau, Alaska with all her worldly belongings in an old pickup truck in 1996, she knew she had come home. The young environmental lawyer would grow to love–and defend–the people and places in the Arctic and the ocean for the rest of her professional career. Jones is now CEO of Ocean Conservancy, the U.S.’s most-established conservation organization focused solely on solutions to tackle the most pressing ocean issues of our time. Jones is a wife and mother who enjoys the outdoors, target practice, and never met a dog she didn’t like. And if she had to pick, her favorite ocean animal is the narwhal, but she'd rather not pick. She is based out of Portland, Oregon.
