Ocean Solutions to the Climate Crisis
You’ve heard of heat waves on land, but do you know about ocean heatwaves? Or about how coral reefs are expected to all but disappear with only 2 degrees Celsius of warming? The ocean is on the front lines of climate change but is often missing from the conversation. To create a path forward, we must look to the seas. The ocean has played a huge role in moderating our climate, and is now an important arena for climate solutions. Through reducing the environmental impacts of shipping, restoring coastal ecosystems that safely store CO2, and developing sustainable ocean-based renewable energy sources, we can help stave off further climate change and its worsening effects. We need to bring the ocean to the center of climate action to address our world’s most pressing problem.
