John Zimmerman is the Tang Family Prof of HCI and AI at the HCI Institute, one of seven CS departments at Carnegie Mellon. He conducts research on human-AI interaction, human-robot/agent interaction, and closing the AI innovation gap. He teaches UX design, service design, lean startup, and the design of AI products and services. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, he worked on interactive and personalized television for Philips Research. He’s published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and authored 40 patents. He’s been an AAAS Leshner Fellow. He regularly speaks on design, HCI, and AI innovation at conferences and within the tech and healthcare industries. His research is funded by NSF, NIH, as well as tech and healthcare companies.
