Reclaiming Her Voice: Leadership, Race & Gender
With the election of the most diverse number of women to Congress, the #MeToo movement and brands like Nike promoting the Dream Crazier campaign, 2018 to 2019 was described as the "Year of the Woman." In this session you will explore how the intersections of race, gender and leadership require more than a year of hashtags, commercials, and media interviews. Using the frameworks of intersectionality, Black feminist thought, lived experiences, and her recent research findings, Dr. Lindsey will discuss women in leadership and the myth of the strong Black woman. Both allies and activists will leave this session encouraged to dig deeper and emerge with greater awareness of social and systemic changes needed to extend the "Year of the Woman" into a lifetime of "Reclaiming Her Voice."
