12x12 & Beyond: Great Packaging Makes Music Better

Date TBA

Music is as much of a visual and tactile experience as it is an aural one. Well-executed visuals do much of the heavy lifting to communicate the music artist’s creative vision. With the steady growth of vinyl sales, designers have the opportunity to satisfy fans’ desires for deeper sensory connections by creating appealing packaging. While streaming platforms may seem to limit the impact of visual design, new ideas like animated track art, standalone apps, and long-form videos hold the potential to expand visual design beyond the album cover and redefine what packaging means. In this presentation, we will highlight examples of award-winning design while also challenging what music packaging has traditionally been in the past and what it can be now and in the future.
