Film Keynote: Erin Lee Carr on How to Make a Must-see Documentary
Erin Lee Carr is a director, producer, and writer; named one of the “30 Under 30” most influential people in media by Forbes. In 2019, Erin released At the Heart of Gold, about the USA Gymnastics scandal, and SXSW alum I Love You: Now Die, about the Michelle Carter murder-by-texting trial, both for HBO. Erin has frequently been described as "prolific". In addition to releasing both these feature-length documentaries, Erin spent much of 2019 directing an upcoming series for Netflix and debuting her memoir "All That You Leave Behind". In 2017, she released SXSW favorite "Mommy Dead and Dearest" on HBO. Before that she was, like you, trying to figure out how to tell stories. Join Erin for a discussion on pitching, financing, freelancing, self doubt and disruption. Let's get into it.
