New Bosses/New Voices: Diversity in Media Ownership

Diversity in media is an obvious goal for improving our Democracy. Yet, diversity of media ownership is even more critical in creating a sustainable platform for new voices. As president and founder of Codeblack Films and Codeblack Digital, and now as president of Kevin Hart's new Laugh Out Loud comedy network, Jeff Clanagan has had a career of being, building, and supporting diversity in media ownership. In conversation with Kori Hale (business journalist, entrepreneur, and a new voice AND new boss in media), Jeff will discuss the state of black-owned media, the opportunities, obstacles, and future. He will draw from his personal experience as a young concert promoter for “HBO Def Comedy Jam” and NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton” tours, working with Mary J Blige, Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff, and other legends, helping to create No Limit Films with 1990s rapper Master P, and releasing over 300 movie titles -- including a Golden Globe nominee -- over the course of his career. He will also talk about creating more opportunities, new wealth and platforms for new voices in a fast-changing media industry.
