Convergence Keynote: Gabo Arora in conversation with Angela Watercutter

Date TBA

Thank God There is No Money in VR

Let’s be honest. VR has not ended up, market-wise, where many predicted. This depresses people, though it shouldn’t. New possibilities emerge, when all those in it for a quick buck, fade away. And the true visionaries and risk takers helm a new revolution. Creativity can thrive. Diversity can exist. And new ethical frameworks and human centric values can be forged. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. If VR had truly boomed as predicted, it would have crowded out the experimenters and those in it purely for the thrill of doing that which hasn’t been done before, in favor of those trying to make money. You can only make money out of something if you know what it is and what it is good for. And VR is still at the stage where we are still figuring this out. And that’s a good thing.
