CLE - Emerging Legal Issues in the Video Game Industry
Increasingly, traditional legal doctrines involving intellectual property, business and tax law, criminal justice and other areas are being challenged in the context of virtual worlds, and, particularly massively multiplayer online games (MMOs). Game developers and players are both tempted to enhance the in-game experience by importing as much of the “real world” into the game as they can, which often includes intellectual property assets, actual monetary value as applied to digital goods, or the name and likeness of real people. This talk explores the unique legal issues raised when this happens.
