The Politics of Pleasure: Can We Come Together?
A girl’s sexual life begins with a lie of omission. The clitoris, the organ of sexual pleasure on her body, is rarely taught in sex education. Men’s sexual desire drives culture, celebrated in books, music and film, while women’s sexual desire remains taboo. How do religion, politics, academia, tech, art, business, film, and even medicine continue to reinforce this 1950’s double standard? #MeToo was a start, but the conversation remains about women as sexual victims. Women are entitled to sexual pleasure. It’s 2019 and time for "cliteracy." Imagine how different the world might look if women’s libidos were taken as seriously as men’s? Leaders in this movement discuss how claiming the right to sexual pleasure for all bodies is a revolutionary act and just might be the road to equality.
