Coding Consciousness: Shared Values for Ethical AI
AI has been referred to as "the philosophical challenge of this generation." How can policymakers, academics, researchers, innovators and thought-leaders work together to develop ethical guidelines for Artificial Intelligence Systems? This panel will examine the role the European Union will play in setting policy standards for ethical development and deployment of AI beyond the OECD guidelines. Discussion will include a comparison of the EU/US approach to concepts like "trust" and "controllability," as well as a discussion of what "shared values" between US/EU means for AI standard-setting in a technical environment, and what legislative or regulatory steps both the EU/US intend to take in 2020 and beyond.
