Digital Play Is Winning – Can Screen Time Be Good?
In a time when the dangers of the physical world make restrictions on outdoor play the norm, kids are turning to the digital one for unstructured play. Online playgrounds serve this unmet need to imagine, socialize and explore with friends. The conversation needs to move beyond an on/off switch to the cognitive, social emotional, and executive function development the digital world provides, and how to help kids disconnect from this immersive world too. Tami Bhaumik, VP of digital civility at Roblox, will moderate a discussion between one of the nation’s top experts on children and media, ‘Mediatrician’ Dr. Michael Rich, and Dr. Jordan Shapiro, renowned thought leader on parenting in the connected world. They’ll share research and anecdotes showing the multi-faceted impact of digital play.
