We don't talk much about disability. If we do, it's largely anecdotal, until a disability somehow affects us directly. Those living with disabilities are viewed as either helpless or heroes. Political correctness makes it hard to even know the "correct" words we can or can't use. The net effect is simple avoidance, rather than risking offending anyone through honest dialogue. As a result, the needs of people with disabilities are often forgotten in the designs of mainstream products. Disabled people struggle to find employment, despite laws to increase workplace access. Even in times of heightened focus on diversity and inclusion, disability is often overlooked. So, let's talk about it. Open. Honest. Real. Respectful.
