Sen Morimoto
Sen Morimoto is a multi-instrumentalist producer, rapper, and singer-songwriter born in Kyoto, Japan. His music has been described as “jazz rap" (Pitchfork) as well as "the kind of music you could easily imagine wafting out of the top story of a two-flat greystone during a hot summer night in Chicago" (FADER). Morimoto began a life-long study of jazz saxophone as a young child in the USA, and later cut his teeth as a songwriter in the DIY hip-hop community of Western Massachusetts. After moving to Chicago in his early twenties, Morimoto refined his sound while maintaining a consistent presence in the music culture by collaborating with a multitude of local artists across genre. Morimoto’s powerful grasp of jazz composition, pop songwriting, and hip-hop styling are fully articulated as a distinctive sound on his critically acclaimed 2018 LP Cannonball! (Sooper Records / 88Rising Music). Like all of his music, Morimoto wrote, performed, and engineered Cannonball! by himself. Sen Morimoto is a co-owner of the Chicago label Sooper Records.
