Created in 2011, As Bahias e a Cozinha Mineira is formed by its two transgender singers and songwriters Assucena Assucena and Raquel Virgínia (“As Bahias”), responsible for bringing the “música baiana” (Bahia’s music) influence, in special the Tropicalism, to the band, and by the guitarist and musical arranger Rafael Acerbi (“A Cozinha Mineira”), completing the group with the “música mineira” (Minas Gerais’ music) influences of Milton Nascimento and Clube da Esquina. The band solidifies itself as an important reference of Brazil’s contemporary popular music, with highlights on the recent nomination for the Latin GRAMMY Awards (2019) in the category Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album for its album "Tarântula", released by Universal Music. The group already has in its curriculum two awards from the 29th Brazilian Music Awards (Prêmio da Música Brasileira) in the categories Best Popular Music Band and Best Popular Music Album, with its album "Bixa" (2017). As Bahias e a Cozinha Mineira has in its resumé performances beside important legends of the Brazilian Music scene, including the participation in the last edition of Rock in Rio concert besides Elza Soares.
