Sustainable Menstruation Products for Refugees, by Refugees

Brendan McCarthy, Program Director for Fashion Systems at Parsons School of Design, together with Dean Burak Cakmak, created a partnership between the UNFPA and Hela, an undergarment manufacturer, to create sustainable menstrual garments for refugees in Africa. Parsons students, along with Brendan and Burak, are working directly with the refugees to refine the prototypes in order to make the garments as effective as possible. Garments will be distributed to refugees in dignity kits at the end of the year. This talk will inspire attendees to use design thinking, highlighting the importance of having empathy for the group you are trying to help, to positively impact some of the most pressing issues of our time.
