If you’re paying attention to the news, you already know that we have an immigration crisis on our hands. But what you may not know is that it’s very much a health crisis as well: As physicians and health care providers warn us, America’s 11 million undocumented immigrants are often afraid to seek medical attention even when they direly need it, leading to soaring rates of mostly preventable diseases. This isn’t just a public health disaster, but an economic one as well, costing taxpayers millions in emergency medicine that could’ve been avoided with routine care. In this panel, health care professionals and immigration advocates will discuss ways to address this crisis and help the neediest among us stay healthy.
