Mélat
Born in Austin, Texas, Mélat is the eclectic soul of modern RnB. Mélat tells a story that is both challenging and inspiring crafted from her very own life experiences. Melat’s parents fled Ethiopia in the 1980’s to escape the brutal Communist regime, The Derg. She later became the first child on either side of the family born outside of Ethiopia. Forever shy, forged by the isolation and anxieties that come with being culturally, visually, and financially different from your immediate surroundings, Mélat tells a story of a voice longing to be heard. Initially through poetry and finally through song, she highlights the often untold stories of love, lust, success, and failure, from the perspective quietest yet most passionate person in the room.
