Palo Duro, aka Michael Winningham, was conceived in the Spring of 2016 when Danger Mouse's new label, 30th Century Records released the debut song, 'Darken the Glow', with a cover of Suicide's 'Surrender' on 7" vinyl. Winningham then assembled a band to present the songs live, with concurrent touring of the West Coast.
In the Fall of 2017, 30th Century Records released Palo Duro's first full length record, Ryou Cannon, produced by Sam Cohen (Benjamin Booker, Kevin Morby). The band continued to tour the country, playing festivals, and supporting Cymbals Eat Guitars for two weeks on the road.
Ryou Cannon was met with excited reviews and reactions. Palo Duro was featured as KUTX/NPR Artist of the Month, earned high status as a 'Breakthrough Artist' by the Austin Chronicle at SXSW 2018, and enjoyed positive reviews from SPIN, What Youth, and other publications. The band opened for national acts along the way like Sondre Lerche, White Denim, and Kane Strang.
Palo Duro is currently working on a follow up record for the Spring of 2019 while juggling live shows, and is an official nominee of the prestigious Black Fret Award.
