At a time when everyone only saw the destruction and devastation from Hurricane Harvey, many strong family members, friends, neighbors and teachers stepped up to help. Seemingly overnight, distribution centers were set up, houses started being dismantled and people began the long journey towards recovery. CCISD Strong covers only a few stories of those who devoted their time to helping others. While the people interviewed are affiliated with Clear Springs High School and CCISD, the destruction and recovery efforts shown are from the entire community. Overall, this documentary serves as a reminder for not only the tough times after Harvey, but also the strengthening of a community. This gymnastics documentary explains the thought process of a gymnast and how they feel about the sport. People tend to have a stereotype of male gymnasts as being feminine. But that is not the case at all. It takes passion, dedication, and hard work. The 3 males, one 12 years old, one 17 years old, and Jonathan Horton (a US Olympian) tell what it actually takes to get them to where they are, and where they want to end up. Its full of heart, true feelings, and love for the sport they have dedicated endless time and effort to. A real eye-opener for the ones that don't know much about the sport of gymnastics, but specifically male gymnastics. There are only two realms in which rules are broken – art and war. This film explores the deontological ethics of war through the deep contrast of the utopian life of a painter and the chaotic life of a battle-bruised soldier. And while the audience thinks they understand the identities of these disparate characters, their molds quickly morph as the story progresses. [Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.]

When my madrigal choir went to Washington D.C. during President Trump’s inauguration, I finally understood what people meant when they said, 'We live in a bubble.' I saw countless parents holding the hands of too-young children wearing 'Make America Great Again' caps. When I got back to Austin, I channeled my anger into art and created How You See Us, which expressed my feelings on misogyny. The contrast of Trump's language to the beauty and purity of the flower projections, glitter, dance, and the teenage girls to present rape culture and sexualization of young women in a new way. [Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.]

Based on current events, #RefugeesWelcome conveys the story of Aisha, a prosperous woman from Syria that has done nothing but good to society. Her world comes crashing down when a bomb drops meters away from the Aleppo Bazaar while she is in it. Attacks like these continue and she is forced to escape the country- leaving her home, family and religion behind in order to survive as she goes through a very rough journey to find refuge in the United States of America.
