Censorship of news comes in many forms. A state can block content, filter keywords and surveil targeted individuals. News organizations are hit particularly hard by this sort of censorship or outright suppression. Keeping the media under heel is a time honored, centuries deep tradition. Alejandro (focusing on Cuba) and Christopher (focusing on the former Soviet Union), will discuss, compare, and contrast the many methods, histories, implications, and potential solutions to media censorship.
