What About Us: Ableism and Disability in the Media

Hidden in plain sight, people with disabilities are typically only represented as heroes or objects of pity in media and entertainment, and rarely with their own voice. In this session, take a critical look at news and media representation and depiction of the disabled, and address how media can help curb ableism in society, and positively impact how the disabled view themselves.
