With Photoshop nearing its 30th birthday, we've long grown used to suspecting images are fake. But thanks in part to the machine learning revolution, doctoring video, audio, and still photography will soon be easy, even for complete amateurs. Now combine this fact with historically low trust in media, nefarious actors seeking to disrupt democracies, and the near-instant speed at which a hoax can cross the planet. What happens to society when we can't believe anything we see or hear online?
