Big Wy's Brass Band
Big Wy's Brass Band is a New Orleans style brass and funk band based out of Austin, TX. The band was originally formed by Westlake High School students looking to have a good time. After a few jam sessions, Wyatt Corder (Big Wy [Large Wyatt]) brought in other members to join the band.
In 2017, Big Wy's made its first international debut by representing the United States at the Instituto Guatemalteco Americano (IGA) 2017 International Jazz Festival in Guatemala, touring the country while performing and giving master classes. Guatemala was quickly followed by the selection of Big Wy’s for the 2017 CR Promising Artists Tour of Costa Rica. Big Wy's Brass Band was hosted by Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano (CCCN) and toured around the country, with the additional honor of performing for President Luis Guillermo Solís at the Afro Descendants Day parade in Puerto Limón.
This funky ensemble has also had the privilege of playing at other well-known events and venues around the Austin area: “Carnaval Brasilerio” at the Palmer Events Center, “Swamp Fest”, and “HONKTX!”. During mid-February of 2018, Big Wy’s Brass Band had the honor of performing for TEDx@youthaustin.
