Los Chinchillos Del Caribe at Half Step
Los Chinchillos del Caribe is the first cumbia urbana and alternative rock group from Puerto Rico. Their sound is influenced by Manu Chao, Celso Piña, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Damas Gratis, Calle 13, Pibes Chorros among others. The group was formed during the student strike of the University of Puerto Rico in 2009.
Los Chinchillos got signed to Sparkof Entertainment / Machete Music in 2016. They release their first album "El Pugilato" early in 2017 in a project that mixes cumbia, reggaetón, rock, moombathon and salsa. Among the producers of the album are: Toy Selectah, Asid The Producer, Andres "Toxic" Mereció, Shadow "La Sombra", Felian "Alinstrumental", The Julca Brothers and Echo. The mastering was worked by Frank "El Medico".
In 2017 the band performed at some of the most important US and PR festivals including: SXSW in Austin, L'Festival in L.A., Ruido Fest in Chicago, Mojanolah in PR, The After in Miami, among others. After hurricane Maria hit the island of PR, the band had to stop for a while but are coming stronger in 2018.
