Moonshine

Moonshine is a Montreal-based artist collective curating a lunar-based monthly event centered around African and Electronic music. It began as a secret nightly gathering in less-than-obvious locations across the city, announced through cryptic videos and text messages. DJs Pierre Kwenders and Bonbon Kojak would play wide-ranging tracks, accompanied by live brass & percussions, with visual installations from Boycott. As the name indicates, the parties coincided with full moons, and lasted until there was no moonlight left.

Focusing on the sweaty fringes of electronic music and the African sounds that inform them, the crew has since then hosted a wide swath of guests: Kaytranada, Dâm-Funk, Bambii and Branko among them. Moonshine also started using the aesthetic and community it established with the parties to channel affiliated artists, expanding its vision from ephemeral moonlit soirées to a catalog of unique music, art and apparel.
