Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami
Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami, a 17th-generation musician and a descendant of Mian Tan Sen, court musician of 16th century Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great, is one of the foremost musicians of Pakistan. He masterfully presents a vast array of styles including Classical Indian, Ghazal, Geet, Qawwali, Bhajan, Pakistani Folk and Sufi music. His principal instruments are Sitar, Vocals, Tabla, and Harmonium. Ustad Nizami performed for the Pakistani National Council for the Arts for over 25 years, in addition to performing for Pakistani heads of State, 3 US presidents, Saudi King Abdullah, Jordan King Hussein, Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth, and Princess Diana. In 2008 he came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar to teach music at the University of Texas and in 2009 founded The Nizami School of Sufi Music in Austin Texas.
