didi is a quartet who found one another on the edges of the Columbus, Ohio DIY music scene in 2013. At University singer/guitarist Meg Zakany and drummer Sheena McGrath began jamming as a means of exorcising life's frustrations, then drafted in two musicians they'd admired from afar: singer/guitarist Kevin Bilapka-Arbelaez and singer/bassist Leslie Shimizu.
Both proud and embarrassed of their pop, math-rock & Indie-Rock influences, that include The Cranberries, No Doubt, Built To Spill and Oxes, but it's the Deal sisters they have the most in common with from off-kilter arrangement to breathy ohio accents. It's Meg's dream to tour with them.
Unusually, didi contains three singer songwriters (singing in both English & Spanish) which makes for a multiplicity of voices and insights contained within abrasive and melodious noisy pop songs. Together, their intersecting politics help nurture emotionally raw, honest Songs fueled by nostalgia and anxieties.
didi's eponymous 2015 debut, garnered admiration from Sadie Dupuis and enabled them to share stages with Speedy Ortiz, Sad 13, Diet Cig, Jay Som and Melkbelly.
Damnably Records releases didi’s second album in the spring of 2018.
