We created this two and a half minute opening sequence for Colin Trevorrow's Focus Feature release, Book of Henry. The sequence animates the contents of Henry's journal, and in doing so, illustrates the inner-workings of this child genius' mind. Working closely with Mr. Trevorrow himself, we utilized a combination of 3D and hand illustration, capturing the pen strokes of our artists and projecting them onto paper texture within a 3D book. the series follows the Roman conquest of Britain — "a mysterious land ruled by wild warrior women and powerful druids who can channel the powerful forces of the underworld." Celtic rivals must work together to fight off the Roman invasion. [Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.]

The Title Sequence for "Comtes de Barcelona" shows many of the recurrent themes of the show: life, death, betrayal, religion, challenging battles and gruesome defeats. Created in a poetic and symbolic way, this enticing piece eases the audience into a world where every day could be the last, and every step wrote a new line of History. Can you escape the template of your destiny? That was the question posed by Justin Marks, show runner of the STARZ new thriller Counterpart. We answered with a title sequence that merges the game of Go with the motifs of Cold War Berlin, all wrapped in the enigma of a parallel world. Symmetry can be found anywhere, from nature to architecture. This title sequence challenges the viewer to think about what is there to be seen, and what is not, and how the two can create a cohesive image. This title sequence was created for a school project and is not associated with any existing movie. We come to the world with an exhalation and we leave it with another one. Everything in between is a frenetic, shuddering sigh, a brief transit in the act of living. A casual coincidence of the union of two cells, whose final outcome is death. [Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.]

A beautiful montage of all the Western tropes you expect from the genre – but spun in a new way, as they unfold, almost like a pop-up book, as a light flies across them, seeking out hidden streets in a dusty town and shadowy cracks in a violin. Snakes, dust, guns, and accompanied by Carlos Rafael Rivera’s note-perfect hat-tip to Westerns gone by, it’s a gorgeous piece of work that is worth taking 60 seconds out of your binge-viewing time for – every time. OFFF Barcelona Main Titles by Vallee Duhamel tells the surreal stories of characters moving around in the same space in a complex choreography of interlaced paths. The tight human pattern they weave often comes really close to overlapping, yet they remain invisible to one another. An hommage to Oscar-winning 1982 film "Tango" by Zbigniew Rybszynski. Creativity is pointless unless it is shared. Ideas inside individual minds are lights that shine brighter when they connect with others. This dialogue generates empathy, and strings of light weave a net of ideas, creating a new world of connections and possibilities. An opium-addicted ronin is hired by his old friend to protect a little girl in the unforgiving Orient City, a vertical tangle of rock and skyscrapers interconnected with waterways and cable cars. When her family is assassinated by ninjas, the ronin must get revenge on the man responsible… [Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.]

Main titles for the feature documentary Paa Joe & The Lion, a true story about the art of love and death. The treatment for the titles used the seven steps of alchemical transformation as its base, likening the ancient art to the design process itself: a language known and used by those in attendance at 2017’s Semi Permanent. The inspiration for the theme of the title sequence for "Solo" (2017) comes from the film itself, where 4 characters from different walks of life were played by one actor, Dulquer Salmaan. The 4 elements were an integral part of the narrative of the film and emotionally influenced the characters. The characters were also named according to the 4 prevalent avatars of the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. Using these themes, the title sequence for "Solo" (2017) is a symbolic look at one of the principal deities of Hinduism, Lord Shiva in 4 of his most distinct avatars: Bhoomi (Earth), Agni (Fire), Vaayu (Wind) & Jalam (Water). The SXSW gaming awards have been an amazing opportunity for us to explore and try new things over the last 3 years. This year we started with gaming hardware, added a big slice of NASA space photography, a dash of retro sci-fi book covers, and pinch of Kubrick's 2001. We combined them together into an opening that transports the audience into the world of the SXSW Gaming Awards. The opening titles for the thriller series establishes a nefarious tone, featuring people and objects languishing eerily underwater. Show co-creator and star Tom Hardy, along with the production team, shot and created a rough cut of a fully underwater sequence to which artists applied their craft, blending footage shot from different angles and in varying lighting conditions, composing shots for distinct effect and adding CG bubbles to create elegant transitions. A good TED talk distills large, complicated concepts into short, easily understood presentations - something we see as analogous to the essence of title design. For TEDx Sydney, one of the world's largest TEDx events, Substance director Scott Geersen crafted a sequence that reconstructs the spirit of unconventionality into something simple and playful, elementary but eloquent. A collection of primary shapes (cubes, spheres & pyramids) forms a whimsically educational display, with the object's character manifesting the unconventional through the unexpected, and not simply the contrary. Joyfully toy-like, this echoes the wonder and excitement we often feel when taught by a great TEDx speaker.
