The Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers hail from deep, back-woods Wisconsin, and bring their "brand-new take on old-time country" to SXSW as part of their 2018 record release tour for their third album, “Don’t Think About Tomorrow Tonight.” Featuring 12 original songs, the album was co-produced by UK producer John Wood (Richard and Linda Thompson, Cat Stevens, Incredible String Band, etc.) and features a stellar country/roots back-up band.
Based in Soldiers Grove, WI, the Sapsuckers are Nikki Grossman (fiddle, guitar, vocals) and Joe Hart (guitar, mandolin, vocals). They perform original songs and fiddle tunes inspired by the classic hillbilly, western-swing, and old-time fiddling traditions. The duo performs frequent concerts at listening rooms and festivals, and are known for engaging audiences with their light-hearted stage presence.
Their 2015 album, "Ocooch Mountain Home," received praise from the likes of fROOTS (“enchanting harmonies and note-perfect old-time fiddle playing”), Bluegrass Today (“impressive.”)
