Ridesharing Had a Seat at the Trump Table – But We Quit?
In every city and every state across the country – there is an aggressive tug-of- war between the regulatory bodies and the rideshare industry. The rideshare industry, like many tech disrupters, feel that ‘self-regulation’ through the marketplace is the best model and overbearing regulations are the only thing standing between themselves and world dominance. The elected regulatory bodies, however, view it as their responsibility to ensure ‘safety’ and ‘oversight’ to their constituents using the services. No place more visible was the battle in Austin which then caused Uber & Lyft to leave the city back in May’16. What happened here in Austin? How is the State and Trump administration stepping in now and should they? What is the steady-state after the dust settles?
