Surviving as an Independent AAA Game Studio

Mar 17, 2017

12:30pm – 1:30pm CT

The ever changing video games industry is a tough business, even for seemingly "established" independent AAA game studios. Insomniac Games, Psyonix and Remedy Entertainment are all independent game studios who have been making games for over 15 years. Each has had to reinvent itself in the process to maintain relevance...and to survive. During that time, each studio has gone through significant changes. Teams have grown into the hundreds, technology keeps changing and doing multiple projects is a necessity. Insomniac have gone into VR while working on large-scale AAA games like Spider-Man. Psyonix has experienced life-changing success with Rocket League and Remedy Entertainment fresh from Quantum Break is now working on two games at the same time the first time in it’s history. The panelists will discuss how their respective studios have adapted to the ever changing demands of making games, what the challenges are and how they are tackling them. The audience will gain rare insight into how independent AAA video game development studios operate, why they choose the projects they do and what they think of the current and future landscape of games.
