Women in A&R: Navigating the Stereotypes

Mar 17, 2017

12:30pm – 1:30pm CT

For decades, the music industry has been notoriously run by male figureheads. Now more than ever, women are finally rising to the top, with powerful women such as Jody Gerson heading up UMPG, Julie Greenwald as chairman & COO of Atlantic, and so on. While progress has been made, the industry still has step to make in achieving gender equality - for example, on 2016's Billboard's Power 100 list, only 14 were women. We are looking to discuss how far women have come within the industry but also how far we have yet to go, with a specific focus on one of the most competitive roles in music: A&R. Working with and signing talent as women presents its own challenges and certain stereotypes remain.
