AfMobile Enables Ecommerce, Broadcasting in Africa
Mobile is booming in Africa, as is social media. One app, WeChat, aims to bring social media and e-commerce together in one place. With some 700-million users in China, WeChat is growing its user base in Africa: bringing a range of new services to Africa - especially its Wallet that allows for e-commerce via mobile.
Using WeChat, CliffCentral.com launched itself as a pure-play mobile and internet streaming service - and is now a major player in South Africa's broadcasting landscape and the biggest podcast in Africa. Its founder Gareth Cliff is one of the country's biggest entertainment celerities and radio DJs, a judge of Idols SA and has been called SA's Leo Laporte.
