The vast number of students enrolling in code schools increases the need for patient and knowledgeable mentors. Many senior developers who wish to mentor others believe that since they are good at building software, they will also be good at mentoring students. That assumption may be false. This session aims to turn code ninjas into great mentors by introducing effective methodologies used in the most high performing K-12 classrooms. It will cover techniques such as how to assess a mentee’s learning style, how to check for understanding, and believe it or not, why it is important to avoid sarcasm.
